8 Best Boutique Hotels in Montenegro
Boutique Hotels aim at a smaller percentage of the market, therefore their service and standards need to be higher. Their business is very much related to their relationship with their clients. Classy, yet personal with all the amenities one could ask for. As a senior, you can take pleasure in the hotel indulgences but do not desire mass crowds. Montenegro is a growing economy and the service you receive in these Boutique Hotels is experienced with the full throttle of a motion to please!
If you do not know about Montenegro, please read my blog Montenegro – Crna Gora – “Black Mountain”. A small country I recommend you just have to visit!

How unique and imaginative can you get! The Forza Mara Boutique Hotel has 10 inimitable, irreplaceable rooms. Each one is different from the next, inspired decor by countries throughout the world.

Hotel Forza Terra
Yes, also a Forza Boutique Hotel! I must admit their original, unique decor and service is outstanding and have captured my heart forever! 5-star in Dobrota, close to Kotor Bay, another incredible boutique hotel!
Everything you need to relax is in the hotel! Without crowds competing for space. Outside pool and inside Mozaic tiled plunge pool alongside the LA PIAZZA bar. Wooden deck and gentle waterfall creating a gentle backdrop chorus. It is family owned and they make you feel part of that family.
The tranquillity of the view across the shimmering still waters of the bay is stunning! You feel at home when you relax on the terrace, order a cocktail from the bar and relax either reading a book or writing in your beautiful journal.
Let your tastebuds savour the gourmet cuisine from the La Bistecca restaurant. No words can describe this food other than, flavoursome, delish, appetizing and delectable. From fish to tempura, these aftertastes remain with you forever. The chef has a way of creating a masterpiece both on your plate and flavoursome organic likings. Forza Terra is famous for its tempura.
In the Forza Terra, they have a fitness centre and a personal spa, which are most certainly 5-star. Hire a bicycle and appreciate an early morning ride alongside the motionless, clear waters, or take a dip in the waters on the private beach.
Once again the rooms are so filled with incomparable decor. Quoted directly from the Forza Terra website: “Relying heavily on Montenegro’s legacy of being a town known for its lush textiles, each of our suites and rooms is designed to evoke the aesthetic of A-list fashion houses and offers a stay filled with deluxe touches and modern comforts carrying iconic names including Valentino, Fendi, Dior, and others.” Which room do you ask for? There are 12 to choose from.

Larger Hotels in Montenegro
Larger hotels often in a hotel chain, can have many advantages over boutique hotels. As they accommodate more clients they can afford more amenities, wider selection in the breakfast selection, restaurants, size of pool, lounges and can create a more impersonal feel, which often is wanted from the client. They cater to business conferences, weddings, families and often have entertainment. They need to meet international standards, so a certain quality of service is given. Competition is high, so the appearance externally and internally must be of a very high rating. They have “earned” their stars!
Hotel Splendid Conference & Spa Resort – the desired choice of stars
Hotel Splendid belongs to the chain called Montenegro Stars. It is a 5-star hotel. A Presidential Suite, a Penthouse Suite, 13 Wellness Suites, 4 Junior Suites and 322 beautifully fitted out rooms. When Madonna, the Rolling Stones, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt visited Montenegro, this hotel was their hotel of choice. Based in a small town called Bečići and was opened in 2006. It is only 2km’s from Budva Old Town a major tourist attraction.
Bečići is a small town in the municipality of Budva. Their are only approximately 900 residents, and it borders a 1,950-metre-long sandy beach alongside the Adriatic Sea. In 1935, the most beautiful beach award in Europe called the Grand Prix was awarded to this beach.
There are three remarkable restaurants.
- Terraza sul Mare on the third floor overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Serves Mediterranean dishes, A la Carte. Shellfish and fish that is expertly prepared by chefs to international standards.
- Promenada close to the beach focuses mainly on Asian Cuisine.
- La Bussola which is on the second floor offers more international cuisine and a Montenegran taste. The buffet breakfasts are superb and so are the lunches. They cater for gluten-free, vegan, American and vegetarian.
Four bars cater for your forever presence no matter where you are in the hotel or beach. Ensenada Beach Bar, Bracera Pool Bar, Conference Bar and a Lobby Bar.
The private beach is fitted out for the tourist. Loungers and parasols as you require. Do you know how many pools there are? 3 indoor heated pools and 3 outdoor pools. Not small ones either!
There is a Spa and Wellness Centre and also a Casino.
The Chedi Lustica Bay Hotel
Tourists have been venturing to the 5-star Chedi Lustica Bay Hotel in Trašte Bay since 2018. Modern sea envisaged decoration engulfs the hotel which is within the Marina Village. Colours that reflect the Adriatic Sea. Light steals through every nook of the hotel giving a friendly positive atmosphere.
The 111 rooms and suites, in different categories, either have a sea or mountain view. Due to the aquamarine decor which is light and blends with the colours of the sea, they feel extra spacious, modern and easy to be in. Today “luxury” living is focused on health and upmarket spas within hotels can determine whether a guest returns to a hotel or not. The spa at Chedi Lustica Bay Hotel gives the feeling of comfort and peace. As you enter your senses relax and you experience a sensation that this spa cares about nature. It appeals to your emotions in every respect. The presentation is immaculate, spotless and spacious. Regent Porto Montenegro
Water everywhere! I am afraid this luxury is beyond my budget, even though the hotels in Montenegro are the best value for money compared to many other destinations worldwide. I did go and visit, had a meeting and had my cappuccino.
I have never seen super-yachts as bravura and stunning as I saw in Boka Bay! Truly breathtaking! There are 400 yacht slips and visitors from all over the world breeze in. The Regent Porto Montenegro is positioned right behind this marina.
A promenade and Porto village that exudes wealth and high-end shops, also restaurants. Only my eyes of observation could permit me to window shop. All very luxurious and modern, yet tasteful.
If your pocket allows you to stay at this luxurious, soup of wealth, I would most certainly do so.
Many hotels in winter in Montenegro often close or are quieter. The Regent offers fabulous autumn, winter and autumn specials so you can relish and appreciate true luxury at affordable rates.
As you enter this 5-star Palazzo styled Italian Renaissance hotel, all refinement, elegance and poise engulf you. There is no “pretend”, it surrounds you naturally.
There is the Venezia Wing, which boasts of 87 one-to-three bedroomed rooms. Designed by Tino Zerdudachi and Henry Zerdudachi from Mlinaric. Zerdudachi is the principal partner at Mlinaric, a well-regarded firm of interior architects, with offices in New York, Paris and London.
Also their are the 88 one to three Regent Pool Club Residences. Gorgeous, solid earthy colours and decor inspired by the Mediterranean.
5 different restaurants to suite your mood.
- Gourmet Corner – Patisserie & Delicatessen
- Pool Bar – snacks and drinks
- Italian Garden – next to the waterfront
- Library Bar – bar food
- Murano Restaurant – this is where you have your breakfast
While we explored Porto, we came across these sculptures. Very different and you cannot but stare at them! I am not sure if they blend into the environment, but you most certainly will never forget them! I see a face in the Murano restaurant too. They are the works of Alexandra Gestin. The “Sumos”. Alexandra was born in the West of France and currently lives in Belgium. As a youngster, she travelled all over the world and got inspiration from the faces and people she met. These pieces were inspired by her travels to Asia and became the focus of her first stimulus.
Best Guest House to stay at in Montenegro
Defining a guesthouse. They are less expensive than a hotel, quieter, less busy, more personal and food is generally healthier. They are small enough to cater to the specific needs of their guests. Service can outperform that of a hotel. Rooms are fewer and often larger. Perfect place to relax, chill and escape from the bustle of life!
Villa DiEden in Budva
Lovely, extremely friendly family-run guesthouse with a garden and terraces in Budva. English and Russian are spoken in the guesthouse. The staff of Villa DiEden are enormously helpful in sharing the best places to go to, whether restaurants, historical places, beaches and grocer shops. All “apartments” have Wi-fi, airconditioning and flatscreen TV. It is modern, well equipped and perfectly positioned to stroll down to 25 restaurants, grocery shops, coffee shops and local markets. The front desk is open 24-hours.

Airbnb in Montenegro
Airbnb’s can have many advantages and disadvantages. It is an online space to rent out someone’s home or apartment. It came from an “air mattress” bed & breakfast. You are not going to arrive at a “hotel” where you will be greeted and shown to your room. The key is often collected at a postbox or dropped off with you. Hotels, guesthouses and Bed & Breakfasts are covered by insurance, whereas Airbnb is generally not. Always wise to get recommendations about the Airbnb you are renting out. They are normally cheaper than a hotel, guesthouse or B & B, but you need to look after yourself while staying there. No food in your fridge or someone to cook breakfast for you, BUT I love them! I love the price, privacy and feel at home whenever I stay at one.
Beachfront Villa Perast Airbnb – upmarket
Perast has been many travellers preferred destination in Montenegro. It is away from the busy tourist town of Kotor, but not too far if you want to venture into Kotor Old Town. An old fishing village of peace and quiet with its own tourist attractions, such as Our Lady of the Rocks. Have a look at my blog on Perast in Montenegro – Crna Gora – “Black Mountain”. What an amazing village to stay in!
Beachfront Villa Perast Airbnb is close to the beach with total privacy and private parking. I love the stone walls in the interior and especially the private pool. Having a villa to yourself, with all the modern amenities is so perfect for a holiday accommodation, that allows you to venture out to explore Kotor Bay, walk to restaurants, shops and even go canoeing. The view of the still waters and the island of Perast is breathtaking!
Apartment 350m from the beach – Budva
Budva is a very popular destination for tourists. Being seniors, make sure you rent out an apartment away from the clubs and restaurants or busy beaches. Have a look at my blog on Budva. It will give you a better understanding of the town. Budva Old Town is a treasure to visit and so are the beaches. Although they are sandy the water is crystal clear and views, beautiful! Have a look at the Airbnb site online to see the variety but as always, do a bit more research into your desired rental.
This apartment is 350m from Slovenska Beach. Jelena as the owner is a “superhost”. It has one bedroom and the decor is easy to live with each day. Sometimes the decor in these apartments can be overbearing. The kitchenette is fabulous and fully equipped. The apartment provides a stove, fridge and freezer and washing machine. The cable TV has more than 60 channels, so if you decide to stay in for the evening, this is perfect. The space is comfortable and relaxing. The price is amazing!
Where to stay in the Durmitor National Park
Today most tourists venture to the coastline towns, but like the name, Montenegro means Crna Gora – “Black Mountain”, a stay in the National Park with deep glacier lakes and towering mountains, will make you gasp with how striking, stunning and beautiful it is! These limestone mountains lie to the north of Montenegro and belong to the Dinaric Alps. Did you know the Canyon of Tara is the largest in Europe and there are 17 glacier lakes? Forests, rivers, flora and fauna just waiting for you to explore! A question you need to ask yourself, do you like to ski or hike? The hikes do not have to be overbearing, but you can set your own level of adventure. Read more about this National Park in my blog on Montenegro.
Hotel Soa in Zabljak, Montenegro
As Ines from Montenegro said “Excellent place. From the moment we arrived at the reception we were made to feel welcome and nothing was too big a problem. The staff really make this hotel. The food in the restaurant was fabulous.”
Hotel Soa is a 4-star hotel with staff treating you with welcoming arms. Best to do your booking to this hotel through booking.com. The bar and restaurant serve international cuisine and has guests from around the world. They even have storage for your ski equipment if you are there during ski season. The closest ski slopes are Savin Kuk. You will pay a daily pass rate which is not much at all. These slopes get 120 days of the year and there are two two-lane ski lifts taking you up the slopes, with a capacity of 4.6km ski slopes. What is fabulous about the Savin Kuk Ski Slopes, is that they are only 5km from the city centre.
Other than spectacular hikes you can swim in the summer months in the Crno Jezero (Black Lake). Also, the hotel can arrange for you to canoe, horse ride, fish and advise you on the best hikes according to your strength.
The only way to get to this part of the world is by car or bus, but check times.
Hotel Ravnjak in the Tara River Valley
This 3-star hotel in the Tara River Valley, Dobrilovina is my kind of haven! It is positioned between two springs and when you sit on the terrace at the restaurant, the flowing water is tranquillity in the making. The gentle walks or more strenuous hikes along one of the 7 scenic hiking trails in the woods are soul captivating!
“Make your vocation your vacation. That is the secret to success.” – Mark Twain
Did you know you have to pay a Tourist Tax on entering Montenegro
The amount you need to pay is not much but has to be paid on your arrival or within 12 hours. A tax is paid for each day you are within Montenegro. Often this tax is paid by the person you are renting your apartment from. They will request your passports on your arrival and he or she will go and register for you or if not you need to do it yourself and register and present your passport. This can be done at any tourist office. If travelling with a tour, make enquiries how they pay or if staying in a hotel, guesthouse, B&B, enquire if they do the payment. You will also need to submit your place of stay and length of stay.
