Content
What did we learn during the COVID-19 Pandemic?
Each country has publicized these rules. Make sure you have read and understood; your health organization
- Wash our hands with soap and water for 20 minutes whenever we go out
- Keep at least 2 meters away from any individual when out
- Wear a facemask whenever you venture to the shops or anywhere
- Only go out if you have to
- Do not shake hands, hug, or touch anyone
- If you sneeze or cough, do so into a tissue then throw the tissue away in a closed bin
- Cough or sneeze into the bend of the elbow, not hands
- Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth
- On returning home, wipe what you have purchased, down with sanitizer
- Wash the clothes immediately on returning home that you wore while out
- If you are older than 60, stay at home
Different countries may have different added regulations
How will we take what we learned going forward into the future
It is all so surreal! As mature citizens, we need to be extra careful. The countries will lift their lockdowns, but the virus will still be around. I am sure all the incredible, highly qualified scientists throughout the world will find a vaccine to combat the virus, but this does take time.
Medication will become available, as treatment is available for influenza which is commonly known as the flu.
What we have practiced during lockdown will be a normal way of life. At the shops, we will make sure we keep our distance and sidestep anyone who walks toward us.
Eeeek greeting our friends! Will we ever be able to give them that hug again? I wonder if we’ll always wear our facemasks when we go out? Not a bad idea really. Being older the masks others wear keep the flu or infection away from you.
When meeting people, I am sure no hand-shaking will occur. Rather give a nod or bow. Visiting friends will have a humorous side to it. We will sit on the opposite side of the room. In the sitting room, will we socialize with our facemasks on or off?
Belonging to the mature generation we are more susceptible to viruses, especially if we have diabetes, heart disease, or lung disease. Cancer of course opens the doors to many infections. Therefore what we learned during the lockdown of COVID-19 is very good to apply to our future practice in all areas of our lives.
Keeping yourself healthy to make future travel dreams become real
It is imperative to now really focus on making your body healthy and strong. Develop new health habits that you practice for the rest of your life. This is wise to do even if the pandemic did not happen. Looking after our minds is also important. This can be achieved through the correct diet and keeping your mind stimulated.
“Aging is not lost youth but a new stage of opportunity and strength.”
Betty Friedan
Eat Healthily:
As we get older, our digestive systems slow down, so our bodies need high-fiber foods. Our bones need looking after so eating foods high in calcium is very significant.
Make sure you eat balanced meals. Food that fights toxins. Leafy green veggies, fish, and veggies. I am not qualified to give you the best diet, but I would advise you to chat with a dietician and get the best foods that they recommend for you. You do not need to develop chronic health illnesses at this time of your life.
You have too much to look forward to. Drink lots of water every day! Cold day or hot day! Water can make an amazing difference in your life. It is in mine!
Vitamins and minerals:
During the Covid-19 lockdown, for the first time in my life, I took vitamins and minerals. The underlying fear one has of something so unknown gives one a bit of a wake-up call. Often the bad can turn into a blessing. These vitamins have definitely given me a feeling of wellness.
Zinc I believe is very beneficial. “Zinc is found in cells throughout the body. It helps the immune system fight off invading bacteria and viruses. The body also needs zinc to make proteins and DNA, the genetic material in all cells. During pregnancy, infancy, and childhood, the body needs zinc to grow and develop properly.”
What I also took was MSM which is Methylsulfonylmethane. This is a sulfur-containing compound found naturally in plants, humans, and animals. I like to go the natural route. It helps boost immunity, relieves joint pain, and reduces inflammation.
I also take Vitamin A helps the organs work properly, and helps with vision and the skin. This does work well as nowadays my skin is much thinner and since taking vitamin A my skin has healed very quickly.
Vitamin C powder – This is rather delicious. I take 2,000 mg per day. This vitamin is a powerful antioxidant and strengthens your body’s natural defenses.
Calcium:
Great for the bones and teeth. Also for the muscles and nerves.
Fenugreek:
This has many benefits but two that I was aiming for was to reduce high cholesterol and blood pressure. I do not have problems with either, but during the lockdown, my eating habits increased and I thought I would rather take precautions.
I also take my Omega oil tablets which we are told to do after the age of 40.
Cell Food:
My biggest blessing over the last 4 years has been Cell Food which I have taken every day. Please have a look at Lumina Health or Oxygen for Life. These drops have made an enormous difference in my life and I will continue with them forever!
You need to chat with your doctor or dietician about what you as a person need. They most certainly have their recommendations.
Exercise:
Don’t be scared, this can be done every day with a pattern of pleasure. Walking is beneficial for your heart, and muscles, oxygen to the lungs, and fresh air to the mind. Do a few stretches of your arms, legs, and body before you go on that walk. The Balance and Strength video is great from Amazon.
I love to do my exercise to music or listen to audible while my family is asleep. Yoga or pilates is another super two options for our age. Swimming or cycling are also great, but whatever you prefer doing, do it and discipline yourself each day so it becomes a habit.
Check-ups:
That annual check-up with the doctor and gynecologist must not be avoided. Even if you cannot feel any lumps on your breasts, get them checked for cancer. Your vision is also vital.
Sleep:
Your body needs time to repair itself, which helps your memory and energy levels. You need 8 hours a night and even a nap in the afternoon.
Mind stimulation:
The older and wiser we mature, our necessity for mind stimulation is very crucial. Learn new things constantly. They may seem initially to be impossible, but endure and you will be very proud of yourself when you accomplish the initial hurdle.
Now I feel I can conquer the world!
